The School of Foreign Languages, formerly known as Foreign Language Teaching Center, was founded in 2013. With the approval of the Ministry of Education in 2019, the enrollment of English major undergraduates started from the autumn of 2020. The goal of our School is to cultivate high-quality, versatile and practical talents with broad international vision, humanistic quality and good knowledge of both Chinese and Western culture. The School began enrolling students in 2020 and currently offers one undergraduate major, English, with 137 students enrolled.

The School of Foreign Languages currently has 38 faculty members, including 31 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 3 professors, 8 associate professors; 2 have doctoral degrees, 27 have master's degrees, and 8 have overseas study or visiting experience.

Since the founding of our School, remarkable progress has been made. Our teachers have won the first prize of the 10th Guizhou Province Teaching Achievement Award. Moreover, 1 National Online First-class Course, 5 Provincial-level Gold Courses, 1 Provincial First-class Teaching Team (still cultivating), 1 University-level Key Course, and 1 University-level High-quality Video Resource Sharing Course have been successfully built. Furthermore, two High-quality Online Video Courses, “Know Before You Go: Culture of ‘The Belt and Road’ Countries” and “Campus English”, designed and produced by our teachers, have been launched on websites:https://www.zhihuishu.com/andhttps://next.xuetangx.com/. “Know Before You Go: Culture of ‘The Belt and Road’ Countries” has been selected as one of the National Online First-class Courses in 2019. In addition, one ideological and political case course was broadcast on Xinhuanet and one course was broadcast on “People’s Open Class”.

The School has set up 17 language labs, covering an area of 1,620.1 m² with a seating capacity of 1,056 and teaching equipment worth 6.35 million yuan. The capacity and equipment standard all meet the national requirement and can easily fulfill the needs of college English teaching in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and so on.

These years, with the focus on English discipline construction and teaching reform, the School of Foreign Languages has been carrying out reform and innovation on fostering students’ competence of language and self-learning ability, aiming at comprehensively improving English teaching quality and cultivating versatile talents with capability of intercultural communication. Moreover, students of the School have participated in various disciplinary and professional competitions at all levels and won more than 100 awards, including more than 20 awards at the provincial level and above; 2 students have won National Scholarships, 18 students have won National Encouragement Scholarships, 1 Provincial Advanced Class, 3 Provincial Merit Students, and 3 Provincial Outstanding Student Leaders.
